MK1 KR - Bonus Level Content

Our secret Field level needed some grass interaction. I built it off of a system I developed for some unreleased content. It is a Niagara 2D grid that can simulate fluids, in this case wind

Bone position is sent to Niagara as particles since they get their velocity calculated already. Those velocities are written in to the grid system and a series of stages create wind.

I made the clouds for the updated Main Menu. They are a flipbook of a Houdini sim with motion vectors so I could interpolate them based on the scale of the cards

As a cheap way to fake lighting, I rendered the clouds with 3 different colored directional lights. I used this as a pseudo-normal to fake the lighting in the material

I had a personal mission to get moving grass into Field. Using a mix of Niagara 2D Grid and Particles I was able to simulate wind and write it out to a render target for use in the grass material. I think the final look is pretty subtle and could definitely be better, but like footprints it just felt wrong without it. I also made the clouds for the new Main Menu screen, simming in Houdini and writing out a flipbook with motion vectors so I could scale the cards and control the speed of the animation.
